Ch.1 – Opener
Like all great art, the artist makes it look easy. But the reality is, artists aren’t born with talent… It takes time and practice to become talented. Replace that time and practice with unearned opportunities and you’ll rob yourself of your true potential. No one but you can make you better at something, the most anyone else can do is try to inspire you or prevent you from making common mistakes (like dwelling on something that doesn’t make you any better). Learn to embrace the slow miserable process of making progress and never look for a way to circumnavigate the experience of failure (like biting on other comics). Bombing is a part of being a comedian. Second guessing yourself and learning to overcome that is what makes someone a professional. Take pride in your humble beginnings as a dogshit green comic that used to bomb. Don’t try to climb a ladder or bribe your way to the top with favors either, it won’t make you funnier to a real audience. The only way to do that is to practice and toil until you learn what works 100% of the time and more importantly, what works on stage starts to come out naturally in your writing process. This only comes with immersion into the art and the life of an artist… There are NO shortcuts.
